Pay Per Tweet

Interesting article about pay-per-tweet technology from izea, the company that already leads in pay-per-blog.  Seems like an awkward way to fund a social medium, having people pretend to like stuff because they're getting paid to pretend.  Of course, we're used to that from our funding for radio and television and publishing and ...  Interesting that books, for instance, work on a completely different model, and that most movie revenue still comes from direct pay.  What's different about the media we refuse to directly pay for, and the media we are willing to directly pay for?  Is it possible to change one into the other?

If the hidden price model is the only choice, we should seek a set of ethical rules for it.  Perhaps the adverts could just be clearly marked as being for-pay.

I heard of pay-per-tweet a few weeks ago and honestly, I wasn't surprised at all. There are probably hundreds of thousands of people trying to get in on it.

Thanks and Regards

Supply and demand. If

Supply and demand. If someone wants it, someone will sell it.

izea is the same company of pay per post isn't it? I think they like doing "pay per" business

logic

Its seems odd that your asking the company that provides tweets, to identify what someone else is being paid for as a paid post ?

Models

Our views on different methods of communication and how we should pay, don't come from logic they actually come from our experience and expectations. never expect them to be logical

I am afraid this kind of

I am afraid this kind of spam is what will eventually make the internet useless.

That´s a nice idea!

That´s a nice idea!
But perhaps because it involves a financial reward it may lose relevance and confidence. But I think an interesting idea and I think it should be tested.
Thanks.

I once believed in paying

I once believed in paying for tweets. I even told a friend to stop giving away free advertising in the form of Tweets and get paid for them. Then I thought about it not as a business owner, but as a Tweeter, friend, follower. I don’t believe in ghost tweeting and in essence that is exactly what this is. It is someone else tweeting as me…but I am getting paid. Just as Jude states, it is ethically wrong to do without telling anyone, but even if you provide full disclosure it is wrong. It compromises the relationship that you are trying to build. Social media at its very best is about engagement. In my opinion (expert and humble), it’s not about the quantity of tweets, how many followers you have or how many people you follow. Tweeting is about developing relationships, engaging with people in a new way. It’s about sharing information and helping build a community without boundaries. It has business utility because it allows businesses, organizations and individuals to be transparent and helps people develop relationships…the kind that can lead to sales, brand loyalty or a good friendship.

There has already been a

There has already been a test campaign run with the Blockbuster video chain where Twitter users receive 68 cents per click on links included in their messages. The Tweets have carried a hashtag, a system for sorting Twitter messages, that said #spon to indicate it was a sponsored post, a method the company intends to carry forward with the new program.

Twitter users have been notoriously fickle about spam entering the site, but so long as the Tweets carry a hashtag, there will be solutions beyond simply unfollowing the user putting out the messages. Thanks to third-party services such as TweetDeck, a method for users to read the messages on their desktop, you can set up filters to hide any messages with specified hashtags that you want. It’s easy to imagine that the #spon posts will quickly get filtered out by the majority of users, which leads one to believe the system will either be a failure, or users will just conveniently forget to include the tag.

While Izea is not the first company to bring this concept to the popular site, it is the first to garner this much attention. It will be interesting to see just how the Twitter community reacts to it, but it is sure to be vocal about it no matter what they decide.

i think that 'social media

i think that 'social media experts' who have 'if you follow me, i'll follow you back' written in their bios will love this. eww, this makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. bleh.

PayPerTweet.com

For those who might be interested, PayPerTweet.com is for sale....

Why they sell it? It can not

Why they sell it? It can not make more money for them? How about their users?

At least they use #spon

With #spon, this may be acceptable. I forsee an option for Twitter clients to filter out such tweets (I'll likely add such an option to HailWhale). At least they're planning to label, unlike Magpie. With Magpie, users were accepting payment to lie through their Twitter accounts; using Magpie is sufficient offense for me to unfollow (and possibly block) someone. I think I can tolerate this system; I'll just likely ignore it.

I suppose it could just be

I suppose it could just be taken as another form of advertising, and it's inevitable that someone eventually finds a way to manipulate something as big as twitter for their own advantage.
Imagine what the price would be for someone like Ashton Kutcher to post a tweet on his account, what price would you put on a guarantee that over 2 million people would see your post?
I'm sure it would be pretty high, it would be tempting for some folk i'm sure.
